Holiday Reading Recommendations...

"Christmas Dreaming" painting done by one of my students. Love it!
I need help.  I'm starting to think ahead to the holidays and would really like to do a little holiday-themed reading.  After putting out a call on Twitter, Colleen @booksnyc came to my rescue with some great recommendations:  Comfort and Joy by India Knight, Over the Holidays by Sandra Harper, and Last Christmas by Julia Williams.  Thank you so much!

In the past, I've read a few holiday books:  Dating Mr. December by one of my faves--Phillipa Ashley, A Darcy Christmas by a collection of amazing authors, and a few by Marcia Evanick.  I'm just really in the mood to read a few great holiday reads, so I'm going to appeal to all of you.  Do you have books that you've read that feature holiday scenes in them?  Thanksgiving is an especially tricky one, but really I'm just looking for the holidays in general.

Help a holiday-starved reader!

  1. Diane Farr has a really good Christmas Regency. That and Harry Potter is really the only thing I can think of.

  2. You MUST read A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote…I discovered it two Christmas' ago and it will forever be probably my favorite Christmas story…I read Christmas books every year and this is the one that jumps out at me. There are others though…just can't think of them right now..OH YEAH!!! Dash and Lily's Book of Dares and Let it Snow are both AMAZING young adult Christmas themed books that are must reads too!!!! Read those three and I promise you won't go wrong :)

  3. I am with Chris on A Christmas Memory! There is also a new little holiday book by former US poet laureate Donald Hall called Christmas at Eagle Pond, which I am saving until Thanksgiving weekend to read.

  4. One I re-read each year - Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris. It's also a good listen!

  5. I love Christmas stories. I've collected Christmas books for years. Some of my most recent favorites, "Christmas Roses" by Amanda Cabot (new this year), "The Paper Bag Christmas" by Kevin Milne (I adored this one), "The Santa Letters" by Stacy Gooch Anderson and "Christmas at Harringtons" by Melody Carlson. I have more under the label "Christmas" on my blog, but these are some of my favorites that get re-read each year.

  7. Colleen directed me to this post. I agree with A Christmas Memory - loved it! I think there's a film version too but maybe under a different title. Not sure.
I love to read Christmas theme romances (historical and contemporary). Light, easy at what can sometimes be a hectic time of year. Sheila Roberts has a couple of Christmas novels. One was a movie - On Strike for Christmas. I'd put it under women's fiction.
